★★★★★ Don’t have enough time to manage a blog? Don’t have web space to host a blog? Well I have the perfect tool for you. It’s called Tumblr. What is Tumblr? Tumblr is a tumblelog. To quote wikipedia a tumblelog is
“a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging. Common post formats found on tumblelogs include links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Unlike blogs, this format is frequently used to share the author’s creations, discoveries, or experiences without providing a commentary.”
Is tumblr easy to use? If you can compose an email and surf the internet, you can most likely use tumblr. To sign up for an account, all you need to do is provide an email address, a password, and url on tumblr.com (example: yourname.tumblr.com). That’s it!
To post on tumblr, it’s as easy as clicking on the add/edits my posts link and clicking on one of the six options. You provide text and a link if there’s media involved in the text boxes. There is no need to know HTML tags. If you can type and copy and past links and text, you can add any content to any of the six options on your tumblr blog. You have the option of adding a regular post, photo, quote, link, conversation, and video.
Tumblr even has a shortcut button you can add to your Bookmarks bar so you can post anything lighting fast to your tumblelog. You see an image on a page you want to post to your tumblr account. While on the page with the image, click the “share on Tumblr” link in your Bookmarks toolbar. A window pops up and you fill in any details you want and can double check the links that tumblr automatically fills in for you. Click Create, and it’s posted to your tumblelog. It’s that’s simple.
The design of your tumblelog can be changed. You can choose from pre-designed templates and have the option of changing the colors and design around. If you just want to change colors and are not familiar with html, have no fear. There is an interface that allows you to choose colors from a color picker, no coding involved what so ever. For users familiar with html and css, they have the option of changing some things around via the code view.
If you’re looking to experiment with a lightweight blog, or are crunched for time to set up a blog but want to, take a look at tumblr. You’ll be glad you did.
